Up until less than 100 years ago that is how this ancient culture, lived. They had lived like this for thousands of years, without schools, books, TV, lawyers, doctors, hospitals, stores, electricity and everything else we refer to as “civilization”. In less than 100 years, the world now expects this culture to “be like us”. The implementation and expectation of colonization has resulted in an ancient culture being crudely disfigured and distorted almost beyond recognition. It is unimaginable how much of this culture lives and struggles to exist in the “civilized” world that has been forced upon them. Force is a strong word, but forced were the separations of families, the horrors of residential schools, the lies they were told, the disease as well as white man's religion and ways. All of these forms of "civilization" were completely foreign, much of it total opposite to the Inuit way of life. Some feel those things happened "a long time ago" and it's "time to get over it". Is less than 100 years really so long? It took thousands of years for this culture to adapt to the adverse conditions of the North. How can 100 years be long enough for this culture to adapt to the "civilized" adverse conditions that have been thrust upon them?

Yoga is a practice that helps us to connect to self. When there is connection to self, there is also connection to pure goodness and the strength within self, which also connects us to nature and the universe. This understanding of the unconditional pure goodness within ourselves is the first step towards becoming resilient and reuniting with our own strength and purpose.
